In Orbit Around The Greater Toronto Area

We did four shows within the Greater Toronto Area ( GTA ) and six just outside it. All were drivable although we made use of hotels frequently. Richmond Hill, Belleville, Barrie, Parry Sound, St. Catherines, Oakville and Mississauga.

I have a little story about me, my truck and Belleville. I was late getting out of the theatre because I was talking to some good friends of mine. Stephanie and Mark Jewett who live an hour away in Kingston were my guests for the concert.

We had a show the next night at the same theatre so the crew didn’t have to disassemble and stow the lights and PA. They were ready to go early and probably could have broken a record had my truck not been parked in front of the bus. So with Warren badgering me and pressure from crew guys mounting I  ran stumbling out with my coat half on fishing in my pockets for keys. Oh oh…….. three wads of lint, a stage pass, two Canadian pennies and a gooey ball of god knows what were in there but  nothing remotely key-like. I must have left them in my truck. The doors were locked but that didn’t matter because I had key-less entry, something that had saved my ass a few times. You just punch in a code on a set of five buttons located just below the key slot. The door opens and Bob’s yer uncle.

I tried it. Nothing. Again, nothing. I looked inside. The keys were in the ignition and some dashboard lights were on. This, apparently, as I found out later, defeats the key-less entry!!!

What idiot, sitting at a big desk during a think tank with the design people at Ford thought that was a good idea?

To every Escape owner who’s been caught by this incident of “shit for brains” I have a proposal:  Let us travel to Detroit, find this moron and conduct a public ass-kicking.

So there it sat with my luggage until the next day. The bus driver managed to do a 40 point maneuver and cleared my truck by inches.

My friends drove me to the hotel where I checked in and then they promptly took me to a bar and watered me.

The next day

I called a tow truck. It arrived at the hotel not long after to pick me up. I knew the driver would have me by the cajones and I was prepared for the worst.

I can’t believe how boring this story is.

The guy charged me 55 bucks.
